Canyon to Cactus Fundraiser

Canyon to Cactus: A 600-Mile Run for Opportunity

Every Step for Their Start Line

The Mission

This November, I will run and bike 600 miles over 6 days, tracing a grueling route from the bottom of the Grand Canyon to the Arizona and Mexico border. This trip will roughly cover the length of Arizona, my home state and the home of the Arizona Autism Charter School.

The challenge is called Canyon to Cactus, a journey through Arizona’s most extreme terrain from the canyons of the north to the cactus-lined deserts of the south. It’s a test of body, mind, and purpose.

But this isn’t just about endurance.
It’s about equity, access, and belonging.

I’m doing this to raise critical funds for the Arizona Autism school and their Special Olympics/Physical Education program to help give access to students that are often neglected and don’t receive the same opportunities as others. For many of us sports and fitness shaped our early years, Approximately 32% of children with autism are classified as obese, compared to about 13% of neurotypical children, more than double the national average. This is not a result of lack of caring but instead lack of knowledge and resources, many children are prescribed medication that leads to weight gain and when parents and teachers don’t know how to occupy their kids screen time is often the answer.

We’re trying to help and the Arizona Autism Charter School is doing it the right way, unfortunately they are greatly lacking funds, many of their students now do want these programs but they’re not available due to lack of resources. We’re looking to change that with this run.
